Day 13 In search of Yukon gold.....
What do you do when the sun won’t shine and the wind howls?
You cycle to get your 100 km in for the day. He certainly wouldn’t ride in
weather like this at home. While Bryan braved the cold, I visited with a woman
who is in a party of 4 travelling together to Alaska from Texas. We had met
them along the road 3 times already and she felt that she should introduce
herself. We had a short visit, exchanged contact information and I left a bit
early to catch up to what I thought would be a popsicle husband. He was still in good spirits, not letting the
weather win today.
These photos show the grades and views that are common on this trip.
The roads are rough with an odd bit of good pavement to make
Bryan smile from time to time. This may well be his toughest trip yet but he
says that his body feels no different than it did in 2009 across Canada. So I
guess he’s not old yet!
For wildlife, we saw
two bull bison who went on calmly munching in the ditch. He also saw 3 red
foxes and a coyote among a herd of bison.
Watson Lake’s sign post forest was unbelievable….who goes on
holiday toting a sign to leave there? Many had been taken from their home town
or city signage.
I did leave some cash
at the stores for food and Muck boots then posted my blogs at the informative
visitor centre behind the signs.
Bryan needed a short nap after his grueling ride but
commented that he had bounced back and forth from B.C. to the Yukon several
times on this border ride. Our resting spot? The Junction of Highway 1 and 37
at the windswept Little Nugget RV Park. Any port in a storm as we continue to
search for Yukon gold, that illusive sunshine that will warm us soon we hope.
